Introducing Our Film

Director Hideaki Ito comes a shocking documentary about the prevalence of radiation poisoning in the US—and the untold story of the mother who tried to expose it. In 1951, nuclear weapons testing began on the US mainland. Hundreds of miles away in St. Louis, Dr. Louise Reiss began collecting baby teeth from other mothers in her community. Through studying these teeth, Reiss found that American children—not just the so-called “Utah downwinders”—had been exposed to dangerous levels of radiation. Silent Fallout traces these stories and others, journeying from Salt Lake City, to Virginia, to Missouri, to the United Kingdom, and to Japan, exposing the government deception behind the bomb.

Media Coverage

Our First US Screening Tour ’24

Covering 20 screenings with 619 attendees for 43 days

Total travel distance 16,000 km

$12K deficit as of the end of Sept ‘24

We conducted our first screenig tour in the US during Summer in 2024. We have traveled through AR, MD, DC, NJ, NY, MA, NM, UT, CA, OR, and WA!

Let’s start the discussion

The purpose of the screening tour is to convey the fact that the entire North American continent was contaminated with radiation and that American citizens were exposed to it due to the nuclear tests conducted by the U.S. since the 1940s. A film was created based on evidence, and through its screenings, we aim for all American citizens to recognize themselves as Hibakusha (nuclear victims) and develop a sense of personal involvement. By doing so, we hope to raise public awareness within the U.S., foster discussions in Congress, and spark a movement in this nuclear superpower. If this happens, it could serve as a catalyst for curbing the global-scale environmental destruction caused by radiation.
